This show is Tonight in Montclair, CA. It features Le Zets (Montclair) VVHITFVZZ (Downey) Brahms (SGV via Baldwin Park) The Lowered (Pomona) Megan Brown (artist/painter) and zines, stickers and print material by Still LIfe Press.

This is a D.I.Y show at a card shop in Montclair (Magic: The Gathering and such) it is $3 suggested donation and should be a lot of fun. Come out and support if you can, Thanks!

MOCA is calling for participants to engage in a large scale and collectively realized clay sculpture project for Urs Fischer, our upcoming exhibition opening at MOCA on April 21, 2013. No previous knowledge of working with clay is necessary, just an interest in working in three dimensions. The aim is to bring together a multitude of collaborators with individual styles. Each participant will receive a pass for free admission to the museum valid for the duration of the show.

Sunday 28 april 2013 (one day only) 11 am to 6 pm (setup at 8:30 am, teardown at 6 pm)

Any artist in southern california who hears of the event is invited to display one piece of art created within the last year. An exhibit of the most current local artwork gives the community (especially the arts organizations) an idea of what artists are creating, how art is evolving ~and the work can be seen by curators whom many artists would not have the opportunity to show their art. If you are a local artist, select your best work created in the past year. There is no theme, no size restrictions, no particular medium to the exhibition. Exhibit space will be “first come, first served”. A limited amount of wall space will be available; you should be prepared to self-display (eg: have an easel for a painting as well as wall hangers if there is wall space, a pedestal for sculptures, etc. nothing is provided.) Registration for artists will begin at 8:30 the morning of the event. Do not line up before 7:30 am. once you register, you may choose from the available space to exhibit your work. there will be a special section for displaying high school artists. All requirements are the same as above. Democratic art exhibit ~ $3 / $2 for high schoolers another aspect of STATE OF THE ART will be fine art vendors. Artists will sell their work in a certain area of the fair. If you are a fine artist interested selling at this event, email Terry with information about your art while space is still available: theresawalker5@verizon.net. vendor space ~ $50 (10 x 10 space includes nothing but sellers permit) this event promises to be a valuable and dynamic source of arts connections for the entire community. Kevin Greenspon a 626 native from the City of Industry/La Puente, Jon Barba/Nicole Kidman an ex-pat 626r from West Covina (now resides in Oakland) and Matthew Gray/Shivering Window not technically a 626r (Long Beach) but a definite SGV ally, are all going on a small West Coast tour. If you happen to be from any of the towns on the tour list and you like either ambient, drone, pop-goth, weirdoes or grumblebum D.I.Y. musics you should check it out. I promise that it would be well worth your while.

Hi, so I just joined the official “626 Arts” blog and will be contributing from time to time. Being a person who has lived in the SGV my whole life I’ve mostly had to travel outside of my area for art/shows/events but since then a small D.I.Y. community has been slowly growing here. I will be posting about local events and events that have to do with artist/musicians from the 626 area. Mostly D.I.Y. stuff since that’s the community that I am directly involved with. I hope that more people from our area start getting involved and decide to start making more art, music, food, and noise. The 626 and general San Gabriel Valley is a treasure trove of hidden talent and creativity, lets enjoy it together.

The Güero Chingón Stories, Vol. 1 have been reprinted. These five illustrated short stories about growing up in the San Gabriel Valley started out as mini-zines which I distributed around downtown LA. When the name Piltdownlad went from a pseudonym to the name of the zine, they were collected into this full size version as Piltdownlad #1, with a new introduction and all the original art from the minis. Available for trade or purchase through etsy.
