CALL FOR ARTISTS
info: STATE OF THE ART
Sunday 28 april 2013 (one day only) 11 am to 6 pm (setup at 8:30 am, teardown at 6 pm)
number 34, 9029 florence avenue (outside) downey california 90240
Any artist in southern california who hears of the event is invited to display one piece of art created within the last year. An exhibit of the most current local artwork gives the community (especially the arts organizations) an idea of what artists are creating, how art is evolving ~and the work can be seen by curators whom many artists would not have the opportunity to show their art. If you are a local artist, select your best work created in the past year. There is no theme, no size restrictions, no particular medium to the exhibition. Exhibit space will be “first come, first served”. A limited amount of wall space will be available; you should be prepared to self-display (eg: have an easel for a painting as well as wall hangers if there is wall space, a pedestal for sculptures, etc. nothing is provided.) Registration for artists will begin at 8:30 the morning of the event. Do not line up before 7:30 am. once you register, you may choose from the available space to exhibit your work. there will be a special section for displaying high school artists. All requirements are the same as above. Democratic art exhibit ~ $3 / $2 for high schoolers another aspect of STATE OF THE ART will be fine art vendors. Artists will sell their work in a certain area of the fair. If you are a fine artist interested selling at this event, email Terry with information about your art while space is still available: theresawalker5@verizon.net. vendor space ~ $50 (10 x 10 space includes nothing but sellers permit) this event promises to be a valuable and dynamic source of arts connections for the entire community. Hey everyone, thanks for sticking with the blog, even though it seems like I’ve been posting less and less these days :( There’s good reason why though, well, for me at least. I’ve been working hard trying to find a place for myself to work within the arts, being both a part time art instructor to preschool/kindergartners, and also being an intern for OCMA. I’m gonna limit my gushing, but it really is amazing to be working in the field I love and have passion for, even if it is tough and I’m just starting out.
On the bad side, I have very little time for other things, with commuting to OCMA and interacting with 4 year olds all the time, I get very drained and mainly use my tumblr time to look at silly gifs. But that doesn’t mean I don’t want to continue to update 626 Arts…. on the contrary, I want to make this blog even better! However, I realize that’s gonna take a bit of help, so you can kinda call this an open call… I’m currently looking for one or maybe two other fellow 626-ers who would like to help contribute to this blog. There’s no pay or benefits, but I will send you virtual high-fives and hugs… if that counts for anything?

See how generous I am? Y’all didn’t even have to do anything for that ;)
Anyway, so there it is, if you’re interested in being a a contributor to 626Arts, here are the requirements:
-Must be from or living in the 626 (That’s San Gabriel Valley)
-Must love art, music, literature, poetry, anything that falls under the large umbrella term “arts”.
-Be able to make at least one update on an event per week and/or local artist (yeah, so I haven’t done so much lately, but that’s the low bar I’m setting for everyone)
Just send me a message through the ask box, we can discuss more from there.
Anyone who is interested in contributing to the event which will take place at the next La Puente Artwalk (March 16), please follow the link for more info on getting involved.
This was shared by the La Puente Artwalk’s facebook, thought I’d pass it along
I just got back from a planning meeting for the next La Puente Artwalk and there are many curators of events that have mentioned that they are looking for artists of all types. If you or someone you know is interested in getting involved, feel free to contact me with information on what you do and I’ll try to put you into contact with one of the organizers who’s looking for creative talent.
To contact me, you can use the ask feature on tumblr, which you can get to with THIS LINK. Make sure to come off of “anon” that way I can message you back privately.
